This is the story of Alex and how becoming famous at a young age affected his life can effect young players in Kent. For a pro player, hitting rock bottom typically results in retirement, Alex needed a way out of his hole, but he had run out of options. “Then my friend told me about church, I was like, ‘Ok weirdo. I don’t know about a God.’ So she took me to church with her the day after Huntington Beach. The youth pastor was talking about humility. That’s when it happened. God’s word hit me hard. The Bible verse was John 3:16 and it helped me to see the error of my ways. I could not deny the fact that I was stuck in a downward spiral, simply because I was too proud.” Before discovering God, Alex used to play with a lot of hate. He would bonus ball people, get into arguments, throw his gun. He got a power trip out of being so young and so good on the field. But it was an angry lifestyle and not at all a healthy one. At this year’s World Cup. Alex noted a change that set himself apart from everyone else. “When we were playing New York Xtreme the team was carrying on like they had already won. They were just talking paintball, about how they were going to smash NYX. At the half we were down by just a few points and everyone started to flip out. Their egos were so inflated that they couldn’t concentrate on the paintball game an they started making stupid mistakes. But I felt very calm and focused. I was thinking, ‘I have a whole second half to still win,’ but everyone else in Kent was acting like we had completely lost. The team lost because of all the pride and arrogance of the players, not because NYX was that much better than us.”
