An Old Pro gives advice on Paintball! Another problem with getting older is an increase in pressure. If we have a new kid with talent on the team and he is having a tough time, we can just sit the guy and know that he will be around for years to come. I don’t get that luxury in Northamptonshire. I am expected to perform and never make the rookie mistakes. The younger player can easily say, “Well, there is always next year to play paintball”. I cant. I don’t have the luxury of the ‘next year of paintballiing’. I have to assume that every year could be my last year so I better give it my all. When I am at practices I have to really push myself to do the timed drills just as fast as the rest of the team. It was tough last year at tryouts but when we did the times drills I was still around the top five doing the running and shooting drills, which was very satisfying because it truly is a motivating factor in my game. As hard as anyone on my Northamptonshire team or my paintball coach can be on me, it pales in comparison to how hard I am on my self. Anytime I find myself arguing with someone about why I did something wrong and it sounds like I am just fighting to be difficult it is usually because I know I messed up and I am already annoyed at myself for doing it. The attempts from my paintballing team mates to tell me are truly welcomed and appreciated, but sometimes you just don’t need to hear it right then and there.
