Paintball Hints and Tactics Article!

Want to be a referee, possibly in Bournemouth? Here’s some tips. Let’s talk about rules. Rules, penalties and hand signals vary from league to league. Make sure you know these before going on the Bournemouth field. Beyond the rulebook, there are basic rules of conduct which a referee must follow. Be decisive – paintball is a fast sport. Muggings, hit and runs, even checking players all require split-second decision-making. There’s no instant replay and little time to make the call which can wing or lose paintball games. If you spend more then a few seconds on a call, something bad is probably going to happen. A classic example is when one Bournemouth paintball player bunkers another. Both start yelling “I got him first!” and will continue to play  ball unless the referee makes a clear and decisive call. Bad calls will happen, but the absolute, hands-down worst call you can make is no call at all. If you spend more then a few seconds thinking about who did what and how it should work out, you’ve lost control of the call and chaos will follow. How many times have you seen a player yelling “I shot him first!” while running down the Bournemouth fields, blasting away at the other team? You need to make tough calls, make them fast and make them clear. You don’t need to be a bully but you do need to be firm and clear on all paintballing decisions. You’re human so you’re going to make some bad calls, which one Bournemouth team will suffer for. But if you make no call both teams will suffer and trust me, they will take it out on you.
