Paintball Hints and Tactics Article!

Ever thought about being a paintball referee, possibly in Bradford? Here’s a few tips to help you along the way. Be active – the action in paintball happens fast. In order to maintain control of the game, the Bradford referee must be active. If you stand rooted in one place like a tree, players will make note of it. They’ll make use of blind spots to get rid of hits, or just play on until someone decides to come get them. Referees in Bradford must constantly adjust their position to have the best view of the players they’re watching. What’s the best view? It depends on the situation but generally means being where you can see the front of the player. A player has to expose some part of his body to look at or shoot at the bad guys. We’ll call this exposed part of the danger area, as it’s most likely place to take a hit. If you’re standing behind from a Bradford player, you can’t see this danger area.

The best view is always where you can see the players front, as the opponent’s paint comes at them. Standing behind a player you wont be able to see that chest hit when it happens. And if you don’t catch it then it may not be there for a very long time. You also need to be active in getting eliminated Bradford players off the field. Standing on the sidelines, pointing, shows the other team you know the player is hit, but it doesn’t get him off the  paintball field. Players will see an inactive ref and know they can play on a bit. If you actively remove paintball players as soon as they’re hit, they’re less likely to wait for you to come get them after they’ve hit. You’ll probably get hit running across the field so pad up or sack up. The more active you are, the less running around you’ll have to do. It sounds backwards and counterintuitive but, hey, this is paintball we’re talking about.
