If you have ever thought about being a coach in Brighton then here are some tips. When you are coaching a team of a lower skill level and you, the coach, are quite a bit more experienced, the Brighton players are very attentive and listen to all that you have to offer. When you are a coach on a pro team, you will have a lot more to deal with. Sure, some things are easier – you can rely on the talent of the players to pull paintball games out when a play goes wrong or if the coach picks the wrong play at the wrong time for instance. But now you have the ego factor to deal with. The Brighton players are at a totally different level of skill and what’s worse, they know it. If the team doesn’t respect the coach’s ability and trust the coach to pick the right plays at the correct times, well…this is when the Brighton players start doubting the play calling and then it becomes a downward spiral. Eventually, the coach will lose control and the respect of the team.
Nothing good can come out of that. I feel that the first step is learnging all about your players. Their overall paintballing skill level is good, but there is a lot more. Who are the best at sweet-spotting, running and shooting, snap shooting, one-on-ones, clutch players, patient closers, and so on? There are many different points that make certain individuals valuable in certain situations. Learning your Brighton players’ abilities will also help when choosing the lines you want to run and when to mix and swap people out during the game. You also have to make sure you stay unbiased during the matches. Sure, there will always be the better players on the team, but your paintball job is to do what is best for them as a while and to get the desired result – a win in Brighton.
