If you are ever lucky enough to become a pro paintballer then watch out because burnout is very likely. You can learn a lot about the character of a Leeds team when they begin to struggle. Third time’s the charm, as they say, and after about 3 years you can begin to falter, and it took absolutely no time before the finger-pointing begins, factions develop, and people who were like brothers to me begin the back-biting. Burnout hardest hits when you’ve put so much into something that it consumes you, it becomes your life, and whether it’s devotion to a mate, your profession, or paintball, when all the happiness in your life is derived from that one thing and that one thing begins to fail you, then what do you have? At that point you have the prospect of trying to leave your friends in Leeds without leaving them as such. You may go into a sort of depression. You friends, your team, your energy can leave you – because why – because this is your whole life. We all know about our adrenal glands, the little triangular devices on top of our kidneys that give us the boost to run to the 50, or lift a car off our kid – they’re pretty darned great for stuff like that. But when you are’nt running and shooting squids at the local Leeds field, or saving children from heavy objects, mental stress will set off this mechanism just the same, diverting blood from our digestive system while increasing our blood pressure, pulse, and blood sugar levels. As you can imagine, if you’re initiating this system over and over, you’ll run yourself out of Paintball juice, quite literally. The constant stress cannot only strain your body to the point of exhaustion, but eventually affect the way your adrenal glands function, causing adrenal insufficiency, and thusly a physical from burnout. So, essentially, burnout can beget burnout.
