Everybody has to start somewhere! As a Novice Norwich player you should think about the same things as the amateurs. Basically, play any type of paintball you can. Since youre a novice you probably don’t have a set season yet, so just playing paintball will get you more experience. Try to train with upper classification players; the more experience around you, the better you will get – its that sink or swim type attitude. The Norwich Dogs have a novice team that practices alongside us a lot and their playing ability increases exponentially. Working on fundamental drills is a must, but just playing paintball is important. Don’t forget to have fun! Some of my most enjoyable memories came when I played at the novice level because you can still play for fun. Trust me, when you turn pro its not just fun anymore! The more experience you get the better you will get. Its all about learning what to do in different situations. If you really want to be the best Norwich team then you have to keep focused on your goal and just keep playing. It may involve hours of travelling for the different paintball tournaments but trust me, its well worth the effort. From the way you hold your gun to your diving technique, the quality will always improve gradually as you play. You may not notice it instantly but you will be making unconscious decisions about not making the same mistakes. Many of the top paintballers have to go through slumps and loses to get to where they are now, and this is simply from getting back up, dusting yourself off and trying again. Because I can tell you for free, if you quit you will never be the best at paintballing.
