Ever considered becoming a Salford free-agent for top paintballing teams? Performance pressure must be overcome. It cannot be allowed to distract the free agent from self-awareness. In a team you want to have your weaknesses discovered by a team mate who can help you overcome them. As a solo player, you need to diagnose and treat your weaknesses yourself. Is it no one’s immediate interest to improve your game except your own. It is helpful to replay incidents that happened in Salford in your mind, take notes on them and search for patterns. I list where I was shot, what hand I was shooting with, where my team was in relation to me, and where to opposing team was. Ultimately, you are looking for trends in where your paintball is going wrong. If something is happening every third time you are eliminated, that is very significant, although it might not be obvious without looking for it. A lot of teams dislike drills. I have never understood this; every sport I played as a kid involved more time in drills than was spent in any other way, except perhaps conditioning. If a Salford team is doing drills, invite yourself into the drill. This is less likely to be disruptive to a teams schedule, as most drills are short, repeated frequently and players are rotated through them with other players observing andgiving you pointers on how to improve your paintball skills on the field. Don’t expect much coaching here – the team you are joining for the drill is doing you a courtesy by letting you take part in there paintball. You must notice what you are doing yourself, be it good or bad. There are few players who have a skill mastered to the degree that they require no further practice with that skill. Doing snap-shooting drills with players less skilled than you might not seem like it is of great utility, but it will help you.
